Park Place Motorsports Imports Two Third Place Finishes from CTMP
Park Place Motorsports collected trophies and woes during SRO Pirelli GT4 America action at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park with drivers Alan Brynjolfsson and Trent Hindman.

It was a weekend of doubleheaders for both the No. 7 VOLT Lighting Cayman GT4 Clubsport MR in the GT4 America EAST series and the No. 77 VOLT Lighting Cayman GT4 Clubsport MR in the GT4 America Sprint series. Of the four races, Park Place Motorsports collected two third-place finishes Saturday, May 18 in Race Two of GT4 America East and Race One of GT4 America Sprint.

The third-place finish from the GT4 America EAST Race Two came with a bitter taste after the team relinquished a lead due to receiving and serving an incorrect penalty. During the driver change the team was charged with a penalty due to having an air hose across the line, a rule that is stated in the GT3 rule book, not the GT4 rule book. While series officials omitted their error, it was too late for Brynjolfsson and Hindman.

The faulty penalty setback was not the only issue Park Place Motorsport rose above in GT4 America EAST Race Two. A hard hit to the No. 77 VOLT Lighting Porsche in Race One put the vehicle in disrepair. The team used opted to take a penalty and use the No. 7 VOLT Lighting Porsche to compete in Race Two, however, Hindman would have to start from the back of the grid. He valiantly drove to the front before handing the Porsche over to Brynjolfsson who would also lead the race before serving the air hose penalty.

The GT4 America Sprint races served to be less dramatic but none the less exciting. Brynjolfsson bounced back from tire failure at VIRginia International Raceway with a podium finish in Race One. In Race Two the 10-turn track held unfavorable conditions for the No. 7 VOLT Lighting Porsche, Brynjolfsson fended off the field for a fourth-place finish in the Am Class.

TEAM QUOTES

Alan Brynjolfsson, Driver and Sponsor
"The highlight of the weekend for me was starting second in the front row of Race One, jumping to the lead into Turn 1 and leading the field for the first eight laps," Brynjolfsson said. "Being out front and gapping the field by 5 seconds was an awesome experience. My team gave me a great car, the Porsche was awesome and felt like I was driving great. Unfortunately, our race was ended by contact with another car. They were given a penalty but it was the end of our race. Even despite that, I really had the time of my life—it was awesome. The other highlight was watching my teammate and co-driver display his magic by slicing and dicing through the field in Race Two. We have a great team, car and I have a great co-driver. I am very fortunate to be surrounded by such talent."

Mike Johnson, Director of Race Operations
“It was a challenging weekend because we had to swap cars for the second race then wrongfully penalized which took away a class victory but as a team, we performed well,” Johnson said. “The positive takeaways from the weekend are that Alan got valuable seat time, he led on his own for the first time in the Sprint X race. We’ll head back to the shop and need to repair one car. Then we’re off to Sonoma for the next Sprint race.”

Patrick Lindsey, Team Principal
“I’m really proud of how resilient our guys are in situations like this weekend,” Lindsey said. “They worked hard to get Alan and Trent back out there after a nasty incident. That’s a huge accomplishment to come back and almost win the race. It’s a kick in the gut to know the penalty wasn’t necessary, and we could have won. However, you have to keep your eyes forward. Hopefully, they’ll have better luck in Sonoma. Two podium finishes isn’t a bad weekend to walk away from. ”
