Toyota Maintains Slight Advantage with BMW M Closing the Gap in Global GT4 Manufacturer Fight

Fourteen rounds have now elapsed in the 2026 global GT4 manufacturer championship, but there is still a long way to go and many more stories to be told. While the top two in the standings have remained unchanged, there have been numerous ebbs and flows while the gaps between brands continue to narrow.

Toyota remains at the top of the standings with 344 points, but their advantage has dwindled significantly as BMW M now only sits 10 points behind. Porsche has broken into third place, and while they are further behind at 221 points, evidence has shown that a surge forward is always a strong possibility.

Toyota

Despite still having a claim over the top spot, the double-points Lone Star Enduro event at Circuit of The Americas proved to be more costly for the Japanese marque. While they still accumulated 36 points, bigger gains were made elsewhere in the field, which ultimately reduced their points lead in the process.

RAFA Racing Team looked strong in the Silver class heading into the standout three-hour race in Austin, Texas as they soared to the top of the timesheets in practice sessions and took their second consecutive overall pole position. Westin Workman and Tyler Gonzalez appeared to be set for another dominant victory in the No. 68 Toyota Gazoo Racing GR Supra GT4 EVO2, however, a transponder issue in the race resulted in a lengthy pit stop to address the problem, dropping them down the running order. They salvaged a third place finish, but will certainly be hungry to return to the top step in Sebring.

BMW M

BMW M capitalized on a very strong weekend at COTA, accumulating 80 points in the heart of Texas as they aim to reduce their deficit in the global title fight. They claimed both class and overall victories for the third year in a row in the special enduro event, with Pro-Am’s Random Vandals Racing duo of Sam Craven and Kenton Koch rising above all the rest with the No. 94 BMW M4 GT4 (G82) EVO.

Meanwhile, the No. 36 BimmerWorld BMW of James Clay and James Walker Jr. also impressed with a victory of their own in the Am class, with Walker Jr. also officially going three-for-three in the event since its introduction in 2024. Furthermore, BMW made another appearance on the podium in the Am category with the likes of Flying Lizard Motorsports.

Porsche

Porsche has turned on the jets and is now solidly in the fight as they snagged 60 points at Circuit of The Americas, marking their biggest single-event haul of the season so far.

The double points played perfectly into their favor, as RS1 were victorious in the Silver class with the No. 028 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport of Luca Mars and Spencer Pumpelly. Additionally, they rounded off the Pro-Am podium with the No. 47 NOLASPORT entry of Matt Travis and Matheus Leist in second place, and the No. 25 ACI Motorsports car of Damir Hot and Ryan Yardley in third.
