Cooper, Pumpelly and James Vie for Pirelli GT4 Sprint Championship in Vegas

Las Vegas, NV – Pirelli GT4 America Sprint Driver’s Championship contenders Michael Cooper, Spencer Pumpelly and Ian James will take center stage as the SRO series heads to one of the premier entertainment capitals of the world to close out its 2019 season, October 17-20 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The champions from the series will be crowned Sunday evening at the year-end Awards Celebration at The Bellagio. 

For the first time since the inception of the GT4 series, it’ll make its first appearance in Vegas and the Speedway. It’s also the first time that the series will race on a Roval and the first time since 2000 that the Motor Speedway will host a race using its Roval layout – utilizing both the Motor Speedway’s banked oval and infield circuit.

Pro Championship Up for Grabs at Vegas

Cooper, who pilots the #10 Blackdog Speed Shop McLaren 570S GT4, comes into the weekend holding a slim 7.5-point lead atop the Driver’s Championship standings. Pumpelly comes into the weekend second in the championship standings and will drive #66 TRG – The Racers Group Porsche 718 Cayman CS MR. James sits only a single point behind Pumpelly in third and will drive the #50 Team Panoz Racing Panoz Avezzano GT4.

Cooper’s efforts have helped push McLaren to the top of the Manufacturer’s Championship standings by 24 points over Panoz and by 34.5 over Porsche, while the Blackdog Speed Shop team holds a slim 4.5-point lead over Team Panoz and a 5.5-point lead over TRG – The Racers Group.

Looking to play the spoiler role over the weekend is Jarett Andretti in the #18 Andretti Autosport McLaren 570S GT4 – Andretti secured his first Pro Division victory at Watkins Glen back in September. The Pro Division field will also include Matt Brabham in the #20 CRP Racing Porsche Cayman GT4 CS-MR and three PF Racing team Ford Mustang GT4s for James Pesek in the #40 machine, Jade Buford in the #41 machine, and Shane Lewis in the #42 machine.

Staveley Looks to Take Victory Lap at Vegas

Having already secured the Am Division Driver’s Championship at Road America, Drew Staveley will look to close out an impressive 2019 campaign with another couple of victories in his #12 Ian Lacy Racing Ford Mustang GT4.

Hoping to close off the 2019 season strong are Alan Brynjolfsson in the #7 Park Place Motorsports Porsche 718 Cayman CS MR as well as series veteran Tony Gaples in the #11 Blackdog Speed Shop McLaren 570S GT4.

The GT4 Am field includes the #2 GMG Racing Porsche 718 Cayman CS MR for Jason Bell, the #19 Stephen Cameron Racing BMW M4 GT4 for Sean Quinlan, and the #24 Ian Lacy Racing Ford Mustang GT4 for Frank Gannett. Mark Klenin will pilot the #62 KPR McLaren 570S GT4, while Dmitri Novikov will drive the #64 Rearden Racing Mercedes-AMG GT4.

K2R Motorsports enters the #83 Porsche 718 Cayman CS MR for Kevan Millstein, while Round 11 winner Jeff Courtney will race the #99 JCR Motorsports Maserati Grand Turismo MC GT4. Flying Lizard Motorsports brings their #210 Porsche 718 Cayman CS MR for Michael Dinan, while GT4 SprintX competitor Matt Travis will do double duty in the sprint series driving the #46 for NOLASPORT Porsche 718 Cayman CS MR.

GT4 America Sprint drivers get their first official track time starting with practice #1 on Thursday, October 17 at 7 pm PDT. Qualifying begins Friday, October 18 at 2:50 pm local time, with the first Sprint race set for a green flag start on Saturday, October 19 at 2:40 pm local time. All Sprint races will be streamed live on and via audio simulcast on SiriusXM satellite radio Ch. 385 (980 on the web stream).
