Bodymotion Racing Switches Gears to Expand Program into SRO Pirelli GT4 America Competition

OCEAN TOWNSHIP, NJ. — Bodymotion Racing will take its Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport to the Lone Star state as they turn their very first wheel in SRO Pirelli GT4 America competition. Formerly known as Pirelli World Challenge, the newly branded series will hold its season opening event on March 1st – 3rd at Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, Texas.

The SRO Motorsports Group is widely known and respected for its promotion of Grand Touring (GT) sports car racing worldwide, and the global structure and resources will most certainly be beneficial to stateside competitors in 2019. SRO is now stakeholder in this American series, and the worldwide rights holder of the GT4 category in which Bodymotion Racing will compete. With these changes, long-time International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) team owner Mike Bavaro values the opportunity to try his hand for the first time in the series in 2019.

“As a skilled prep shop and professional racing team, we provide a service to drivers and for us it is customer-driven,” explained Bavaro. “With no conflicting dates in GT4 between the SRO and IMSA racing schedules this year, we are now in a position to accommodate drivers by competing in both championships if needed. We’ll race where our customers want to race.”

Drivers Sean Gibbons and Al Carter will team up in the Pirelli GT4 America amateur class for next weekend’s SprintX format, which features a 60-minute race on both Saturday and Sunday. Although this duo of drivers is new to Bodymotion Racing, neither is a stranger to the podium in Pirelli GT4 America. Gibbons, a two-time winner at COTA, is looking forward to kicking off his run for the East Regional SprintX driver championship at the famed circuit just hours from his home in Argyle, Texas. Unfortunately a last minute scheduling conflict with his regular co-driver forced him to seek out another team for this event. Originally from New Jersey, Sean is well familiar with Ocean Township based squad and is delighted to finally compete with the Porsche team.

“When I went looking for a team, Bodymotion was a great choice,” Gibbons said. “I have a ton of respect for them and how they operate. We’ve talked a few times about doing something together and it just hadn’t worked out so I’m glad it came together for this race. I’m super excited about Al (Carter) and I competing together because he’s a past Rolex 24 winner and really good in the car, plus I think the two of us have a really good opportunity to finish well.”

Al Carter certainly knows the top two steps of the COTA podium, as he scored a win and 2nd place in last year’s March race in the GT4 category races. While most of his previous racing has been in the IMSA sanctioned racing series, Carter is excited for the opportunity to return and battle for another win in the SRO sanctioned series.

“For me, it gets my adrenaline going to know I’m going to COTA with Bodymotion Racing,” explained an excited Carter. “I know the team well as a competitor, and they are good guys, so to be part of the team with an expectation to go out there and perform gets me fired up. It’s a really good feeling to get the call to co-drive with Sean (Gibbons) and I’m looking forward to sharing the seat with him.”

The first of three practice sessions for the Pirelli GT4 America series on Thursday, Feb 28th will start at 9:15 a.m. CST, followed by two additional practice sessions on Friday. After qualifying on Saturday morning, the first 60-minute race will start at 1:05 p.m. CST, followed by the final round on Sunday at 10:10 a.m. CST.
