Marco Polo Motorsports Opens GT4 America Championship at Circuit of the Americas

AUSTIN, Texas – The 2020 GT4 America championship is set to begin this weekend in Austin, Texas, at the iconic Circuit of the Americas race track. Sports car racing team Marco Polo Motorsports is set to participate in their first SprintX championship, with drivers Nicolai Elghanayan and Reiter Engineering Works Driver Mads Siljehaug. The pair will compete in rounds one and two of the championship this weekend, sharing the No. 71 KTM X-Bow they’ll race together for the season.

The team has spent months in preparation testing for the 2020 season, excited to debut the 2020 spec KTM X-Bow GT4 EECO, which will make its on track debut at the Grand Prix of Long Beach in April, after the sanctioning body is able to complete tests for the Balance of Performance in an effort to tune all of the sports cars to be equal in the highly competitive championship. For this weekend’s event, the team will run the 2019 spec KTM X-Bow, which Elghanayan (EL-GAIN-NYIAN)  ran for a partial season last year. Reiter Engineering Works Driver Mads Siljehaug (SILIA-HOWG) joins Marco Polo Motorsport, fresh off clinching the 2019 ADAC GT4 Germany championship, and will be a strong asset to the team in the 2020 season.

The switch from the GT4 America Sprint format to SprintX will introduce new elements to the event schedule for Marco Polo Motosrports. Both drivers will have the opportunity to run a 15 minute qualifying session, each qualifying for one of the two races. The driver who qualifies for race one will start Saturday’s event, and during the 10 minute mandatory pit window, will come in from pit lane to allow the second driver to take over and complete the race. Driver two will start race two on Sunday, and like his co-driver did the day before, pit during the mandatory window for his teammate to finish the race.

In addition to live coverage all weekend long on Facebook, twitter, and Instagram from Marco Polo Motorsports, all qualifying and race sessions will take stream live on gt4-america.com as well as the GT World YouTube page. Fans can follow live timing for all the sessions, via the official event page. SiriusXM will also offer live coverage on Channel 202, or channel 969 on the SiriusXM app. CBS Sports Network will air the event tape delayed on March 17th at 10:00PM ET.
