Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin - The fifth weekend of the 2022 Pirelli GT4 America Series season began this Friday at the legendary Road America circuit. With track temperatures rising quickly, drivers took to the track late afternoon for the second free practice session.

Terry Borcheller initially topped the standings in the early minutes of the session, commanding his Am class #20 Carrus Callas Raceteam Toyota GR Supra GT4. Shortly after, drivers in the Silver class quickly climbed to the top of the leaderboard. But with three minutes left in the session, it was a Pro/Am class car that took the overall fastest time.

Nevertheless, Borcheller topped the Am class with a time of 2:18.258, which was also the fifth-best overall time of the session. Alex Filsinger, in the #53 BMW M4 GT4 Auto Technic Racing, secured the second-fastest time in the class with a 2:18.745. Matt Travis (#19 NOLASPORT Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport) rounded off the Top 3.

Stevan McAleer and Eric Filgueiras (#18 RS1 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport) finished first in the Silver class and second overall with a time of 2:17.449. Having won seven of the first eight races of the 2022 season, the pairing are looking to extend their dominant performance. Gavin Sanders and Michai Stephens (#34 Conquest Racing/JMF Mercedes-AMG GT4) Motorsports finished the session second in class, clocking in a time of 2:18.410. After strong finishes at the previous round in Watkins Glen, Sanders and Stephens are aiming to turn it up a notch. Kevin Conway and John Geesbreght rounded off the Top 3 in the Silver class in the #68 Smooge Racing Toyota GR Supra GT4, a slight step back after topping the charts in the first free practice session.

Aaron Telitz (#69 Smooge Racing Toyota GR Supra GT4) emerged as the fastest driver with a lap of 2:17.227. Telitz shares the wheel of the #69 with Todd Coleman in the Pro/Am class. Elliott Skeer and Adam Adelson (#120 Premier Racing Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport) had the second-fastest Pro/Am time and third-fastest overall time with a 2:17.721. Following closely behind in third was Andy Lee and Elias Sabo in the #8 Flying Lizard Motorsports Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 with a time of 2:18.203.

Rain started shortly after the session ended, and may return tomorrow, so set-ups could be a challenge.

The gaps remained small across all classes throughout the session, suggesting that we may have a very tight qualifying session on our hands tomorrow.

Qualifying gets underway at 10:40 AM CST and 11:00 AM CST on Saturday and Race 1 starts at 4:05 PM CST.
