Racing is a lot like Jazz; there is much improvisation when done well. At last, New Orleans fans can watch the art of GT and TC racing from Friday, April 28 through Sunday, April 30.
SRO Motorsports America is bringing an ensemble of players to NOLA Motorsports Park, a short 20-minute drive outside of New Orleans, Louisiana. The Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS, GT America powered by AWS, Pirelli GT4 America and TC America powered by Skip Barber, and the support of Skip Barber Formula Series make up a spectacular weekend in the bayou.
Up Close and Personal
Visitors are welcome to feel the rhythm of the open paddock. The bustling of race cars, sound of live music and the sweet smell of beignets creates a welcoming atmosphere. Guests can approach team garages and watch as teams tune Mercedes-AMG, Aston Martin, Porsche, Toyota and Chevrolet race cars. On Sunday, you can feel like you’re part of the action by joining the grid walk immediately before Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS Race Two. The grid walks put fans in the mix with cars, crews and officials.
Autograph sessions are scheduled through the weekend for fans to meet the drivers themselves and receive a free SRO America poster. The Fanatec GT World Challenge powered by AWS and GT America powered by AWS take place on Saturday, April 29 at 11 a.m. CT with Pirelli GT4 America hosting its session later in the day at 2 p.m. TC America powered by Skip Barber along with support Skip Barber Formula Series autograph session happens Sunday, April 30 at noon.
Syncopation Shift
Those looking for a hipper vibe may jive with the Paddock Club. The lively hall includes a cavalcade of tasty treats and drinks on hand throughout the day. Adults and kids can take five inside the comfortable, air-conditioned event center. The state-of-the-art building dampens the sounds allowing for conversation but keeps you engaged with the scatting of the race cars on the track below.
Down in the Bayou
The mighty Mississippi River splits New Orleans from NOLA Motorsports Park in the deep south. The racing circuit has produced local teams and drivers racing in multiple series across the United States. The track is creating a great race weekend alongside SRO America for the second year running. NOLA offers a world-class event center and a modern 2.75-mile, 16-turn road course.
Concession and libation options will satisfy even the most stringent food and drink connoisseurs. The on-track action gives a double-time feel to both seasoned racers and fresh eyes as over a hundred GT cars fight for glory over the three-day weekend. Visitors may also dig the shopping offered by pop-ups from partners and local companies. If the smell of Pirelli tires strikes you, try your hand at racing on the go-kart track.
Stay a While
Count Basie sang about April in Paris but why not April in NOLA? Don’t bother with the traffic or fight upstream to get back home. Stay at the race track all weekend. The camping package is $250 dollars for a tent or RV space and includes two general admission tickets. That’s right; you can get entrench yourself in the carnival that is the SRO America weekend. Eat, drink and sleep racing at NOLA Motorsports Park.
