The Pirelli GT4 America field revved up for Practice Two to close out Friday’s action at Road America as the sun began to make its descent in the sky. The challenging nature of the track meant that teams had to take the opportunity across every lap to set themselves up in a good spot ahead of tomorrow morning’s qualifying session.
A red flag came out within the first 10 minutes of the session, which put the green flag running on hold for a bit, but the field was able to return to the track for the remaining 22 minutes. However, another red flag in the final 5 minutes put a slightly early end to Practice Two.
Silver Class
Zac Anderson took the early lead in the No. 51 Auto Technic Racing BMW M4 GT4, but soon found himself to be accompanied by Jesse Webb and Parker Thompson in the No. 34 Conquest Racing / JMF Motorsport Mercedes-AMG GT4 and the No. 999 Hanley Motorsports Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO.
When it was all said and done, Hanley Motorsports were the ones to emerge at the top of the leaderboard, with a rapid lap time of 2:15.158 unable to be matched by their competitors.
The No. 92 Random Vandals Racing BMW M4 GT4 of Kenton Koch and Kevin Boehm also remained in the hunt, concluding their day with a second place finish. The Top 5 was further completed by Chandler Hull and Harry Gottsacker in the No. 88 STR38 Motorsports BMW M4 GT4 in third, Conquest Racing’s Jesse Webb and Michai Stephens in fourth, and Auto Technic Racing’s Zac Anderson in fifth.
PRO-AM Class
A plethora of manufacturers were in the mix as teams displayed their pace and competitive spirit, with the leaderboard being shuffled around many times before the session came to a close.
James Walker Jr. and Tyler McQuarrie arrived in style, clocking in the fastest lap time in the PRO-AM class and the second-fastest time overall on board their No. 82 BimmerWorld BMW M4 GT4. Meanwhile, Kay van Berlo and Curt Swearingin further proved their consistency after solidifying their second P2 finish of the day in the No. 7 ACI Motorsports Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport.
Third place in the session was occupied by the No. 13 GMG Racing Aston Martin Vantage AMR
GT4 of Todd Parriott and Tom Dyer. Kevin Conway and John Geesbreght followed in fourth in the No. 68 Smooge Racing Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO, with Matt Travis and Jason Hart wrapping up the Top 5 with their No. 47 NOLASPORT Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport.
AM Class
Terry Borcheller locked in back-to-back P1 finishes in the practice sessions with the No. 20 Carrus Callas Raceteam Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO, demonstrating that he and Nicholas Shanny will once again be the ones to watch this weekend.
As for the remainder of the field, it was a very tight battle across the rest of the Top 5. The No. 72 KRUGSPEED Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO of Anthony Geraci and Jaden Lander completed the session in second, followed very closely by Hannah Grisham and Rianna O'Meara-Hunt in the No. 26 Heart of Racing Team Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4, separated by only 0.012 seconds.
Teammates Charlie Postins and James Clay and the pairing of Paul Sparta and Al Carter were even closer still, with the No. 36 BimmerWorld and No. 98 Random Vandals Racing BMW M4 GT4’s claiming fourth and fifth by a margin of 0.005 seconds between them.
