Hanley Motorsports, RENNtech Motorsports and Carrus Callas Raceteam Quickest in Practice 2 at Sonoma Raceway

As the California sun shone brightly, 28 machines took to Sonoma Raceway during Practice 2. All of the 56 drivers were expected to jump behind the wheel of their race cars to try and set the fastest lap. 

Formatting for Practice 2 was different than usual, as the session was used to set the grid for Race 1 and Race 2. 

Silver Class

Daniel Hanley and Parker Thompson asserted themselves in the Silver Class field, speeding over the rolling hills of Sonoma in the No. 999 Hanley Motorsports Toyota Gazoo Racing GR Supra GT4 EVO and setting the fastest time in the process. 

2023 Vice-Champion Michai Stephens was also quick to find speed in his new venture with Jonathan Neudorf in the No. 23 TechSport Racing Nissan Z NISMO GT4, as the duo set the second-fastest overall time in the session.

John Geesbreght and Tyler Gonzalez were back in the No. 68 Smooge Racing Toyota Gazoo Racing GR Supra GT4 EVO, settling into third position in class, while 2023 Driver’s Champion Zac Anderson was also in the mix in the No. 51 AutoTechnic Racing BMW M4 GT4, joined by new teammate Colin Garrett. Kevin Boehm and Kenton Koch secured the final spot in the Top 5 in the Silver Class with their No. 97 Random Vandals Racing BMW M4 GT4. 

Pro-Am Class

The No. 89 RENNtech Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT4 of Michael Auriemma and Matheus Leist went quickest in the Pro-Am Class, setting a benchmark time of 1:41.410, which was also the third quickest time overall. 

The No. 22 TechSport Racing Nissan Z NISMO GT4 of Eric Powell and Colin Harrison was only 0.054 behind, also clinching the 4th quickest time overall. It has been a fruitful first official day for Nissan as the third team in class was the No. 9 Blackdog Speed Shop Nissan Z NISMO GT4 of Tony Gaples and Michael Cooper. 

Following suit was the No. 13 Flying Lizard Motorsports Aston Martin Vantage GT4 co-driven by Todd Parriott and California-native Tom Dyer. Rounding up the Top 5 was the No. 7 ACI Motorsports Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS of Curt Swearingin and Kay van Berlo. 

Am Class

Nicholas Shanny and Terry Borcheller got off to a strong start in the No. 20 Carrus Callas Raceteam BMW M4 GT4, setting the quickest time in the Am Class. 

Austin Krainz and Roland Krainz also showed strong pace in the No. 18 RS1 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport as the duo slotted themselves into second position in class, followed closely by Troy Lindstrom and Matt Million in the No. 53 AutoTechnic Racing BMW M4 GT4. 

BMW entries showed strong performances across the board, with Paul Sparta and Kris Wilson inserting themselves into the mix in fourth on board the No. 98 Random Vandals Racing BMW M4 GT4, with last season’s champions Charlie Postins and James Clay in hot pursuit in the No. 36 BimmerWorld BMW M4 GT4.

The Pirelli GT4 America field will return to the track for Race 1 on Saturday, April 6th at 5:50 PM PDT.
