Kenny Murillo and Christian Szymczak Partner with Murillo Racing for SRO SprintX Race at Sonoma

Kenny Murillo and Christian Szymczak are proud to announce that they will be driving the #34 Mercedes AMG GT4 with Murillo Racing in the upcoming SRO GT4 America event at Sonoma Raceway. The duo is making their debut in GT4 West with Murillo Racing after the team’s success in the Eastern division, with a recent overall win at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park.

The race marks Kenny Murillo’s professional debut in a GT4 car following a series of wins in his debut in TC America in 2017. Murillo is the managing owner and data engineer for Murillo Racing’s SRO efforts.

“SRO has been like family since my first professional win with Mazda Motorsports. I’ve been successful in the TCA category, and I’m excited to apply the race craft I’ve learned to the Mercedes,” Murillo said. “Our team has been a consistent top contender in GT4 East events thanks to the determination of our crew and the driving skills of Christian and Matt Fassnacht, and I’m hoping to keep that momentum going as a driver.”

Sonoma Raceway is a half-hour drive from Murillo Racing’s shop, and is where the love of racing started for Murillo – his first club race was at Sonoma, where he dominated a competitive Spec Miata class after just days behind the wheel. Now, he is returning as a professional racer.

“Sonoma is a technical and unforgiving track, but it’s also rewarding, and it’s home for me,” Murillo said. “I’ll be racing at a familiar track with a familiar face -- I’ve looked up to Christian ever since he moved into pro endurance racing with our team, and it’s an honor to drive with him.”

Christian Szymczak will be returning to the #34 Mercedes after a dominant weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park, and is anticipating a similarly successful weekend with Murillo Racing.

“With Murillo Racing, we’re able to fight for wins and podiums. How can I complain?” Szymczak said. “It’s even nicer when we’re all so close to home in Sonoma. Sonoma is a really fun track to drive, with lots of elevation changes and high-speed entry corners. It would be pretty sweet to win at our home track – we’re gonna go for it!”

Szymczak is also looking forward to driving with Murillo/”

“Kenny is a promising young driver with both speed and smarts. I’m looking forward to driving with him this weekend.,” Szymczak said. We work well together and I’m confident we can get some good results.”
