The Pirelli GT4 America field returned to Road America on Friday morning for a pair of 15-minute qualifying sessions, setting the grids for the two races on tap this weekend at the legendary Wisconsin circuit. With Race 1 scheduled for Friday afternoon and Race 2 set for Saturday, every lap counted as drivers battled for track position.
The sessions produced a mix of familiar names at the front and impressive performances throughout all three classes, but ultimately it was Kellymoss’ Riley Dickinson and Blackdog Racing’s Michael Cooper that secured the ROWE Pole Position Awards.
Silver Class
Qualifying 1
Riley Dickinson wasted little time making an impression in the first qualifying session at the wheel of the No. 73 Kellymoss Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport, securing Silver class pole while also topping the overall timing sheets. RAFA Racing Team’s Westin Workman put together a strong run to claim second in Silver and third overall in the No. 68 Toyota Gazoo Racing GR Supra GT4 EVO2, and Austin Jurs rounded out the top three in Silver, qualifying the No. 131 Advance Motorsports McLaren Artura GT4 third in class.
Qualifying 2
The Silver class pole changed hands in the second session, with Parker DeLong putting the Advance Motorsports McLaren at the sharp end of the field. DeLong went quickest in Silver and second overall, as RAFA Racing Team’s Tyler Gonzalez followed as the second-fastest Silver competitor, while Luca Mars placed third in class in the No. 028 RS1 Porsche. With Pro-Am competitors occupying positions between them in the overall order, the Silver field will have plenty of traffic to navigate in Race 2.
Pro-Am Class
Qualifying 1
Tony Gaples delivered an impressive qualifying performance for Blackdog Racing, putting the No. 33 McLaren Artura GT4 on Pro-Am pole and second overall. Gaples’ pace gave him a clear advantage over the rest of the Pro-Am field, with Sam Craven leading the next group of class competitors. The Random Vandals Racing driver qualified second in Pro-Am and eighth overall aboard the No. 94 BMW M4 GT4 (G82) EVO. Michael Tosi completed the top three in Pro-Am, placing the No. 77 McCumbee McAleer Racing Ford Mustang GT4 (S650) just behind Craven in the overall order.
Qualifying 2
Blackdog Racing continued its strong qualifying form in the second session, with Michael Cooper securing pole position in both Pro-Am and overall. The result adds another pole to Cooper’s weekend as he continues his pursuit of becoming the standalone winningest driver in SRO America history. Mason Filippi gave McLaren another strong result by qualifying second in Pro-Am in the No. 49 Bryan Herta Autosport w/ Curb Agajanian entry. Ryan Yardley completed the Pro-Am top three in the No. 25 ACI Motorsports Porsche.
Am Class
Qualifying 1
The Am class produced one of the closest battles of the morning, with just 0.034 seconds separating the top two qualifiers. James Walker Jr. emerged on top in the No. 36 BimmerWorld BMW M4 GT4 (G82) EVO, narrowly ahead of Kris Wilson for the Am class pole. Wilson put the No. 413 Colorado Motorsport with Flying Lizard BMW M4 GT4 (G82) EVO second in class, while Michael Garcia secured third in the No. 21 ACI Motorsports BMW M4 GT4 (G82) EVO.
Qualifying 2
Alex Garcia carried that same momentum into the second qualifying session, earning Am class pole for Saturday’s race in the ACI Motorsports BMW. BimmerWorld’s James Clay came through with the second-fastest Am time, while Lucas Catania secured third in class in the No. 17 Rigid Speed Company BMW M4 GT4 (G82) EVO.
