Race 2 of the Pirelli GT4 America weekend at Barber Motorsports Park for the UAB Medicine GT World Alabama benefiting Teal Wings of Hope event came down to the wire, with late-race battles and a final-lap twist reshuffling the order across all three classes.
ACI Motorsports celebrated a breakthrough victory in the Silver class as Trenton Estep and Yves Baltas converted a strong pit stop and a late charge into their first series win. In Pro-Am, Random Vandals Racing’s Kenton Koch and Sam Craven ultimately inherited the victory following a post-race penalty handed to another competitor, while TechSport Racing’s Tyler Stone and Frankie Muniz bounced back from a difficult opening race in Alabama to claim their third Am class win of the season.
Silver Class
Parker DeLong led the Silver field through the opening stint aboard the No. 131 Advance Motorsports McLaren Artura GT4, gradually building a small advantage over Tyler Gonzalez in the No. 68 RAFA Racing Team Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2.
The running order began to take shape as the mandatory pit window cycled through. Advance Motorsports emerged still in command, while a strong stop from ACI Motorsports moved Trenton Estep into second aboard the No. 7 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport, putting him within striking distance of the lead.
The complexion of the race changed dramatically following a Full Course Yellow. Shortly after the restart with less than 15 minutes remaining, championship leader Spencer Pumpelly came to a halt on track in the No. 028 RS1 Porsche. Pumpelly was eventually able to get the car moving again, but the delay dropped the championship-leading entry well down the order.
As the clock wound down, the battles intensified. Westin Workman went on the attack in the No. 68 RAFA Racing Team Toyota, finding his way past Francis Selldorff in the No. 51 Auto Technic Racing BMW M4 GT4 EVO to move into third.
Ahead, Estep closed in on Austin Jurs before making the decisive move for the lead in the closing stages. From there, he held firm to secure a maiden Pirelli GT4 America victory for both himself and Baltas in their debut weekend with ACI Motorsports and the series.
“Thank you so much to Curt and everybody at ACI,” Estep said. “They gave us an amazing car and the platform to be able to go to the front. I’m very fortunate and very excited. It’s my first win in SRO as well.”
“This is incredible,” Baltas added. “I knew there was going to be a lot of tire degradation, so I had to give Trent the car in a good place. He did an awesome job. I’m ecstatic and definitely looking forward to Indy.”
Pro-Am Class
Michael Cooper led the field to green from overall pole position in the No. 33 Blackdog Racing McLaren Artura GT4 and immediately went to work building a commanding advantage. It was smooth sailing throughout the opening half of the race, with Blackdog Racing maintaining control through the mandatory driver changes as Tony Gaples took over from Cooper.
That comfortable run was interrupted in the second half when the No. 19 Auto Technic Racing BMW and No. 03 Precision Racing LA Toyota made contact, sending both cars spinning and leaving debris on track. The incident triggered a Full Course Yellow and erased the advantage Cooper had worked to establish for his teammate.
The field returned to green with less than 15 minutes remaining, but the drama continued all the way to the final lap. Gaples and the No. 39 Dome Motorsport Mercedes-AMG GT4 of Allen Patten made contact while battling for the class victory, sending the Blackdog Racing McLaren into a spin. Patten crossed the line first in Pro-Am but was later handed a penalty for incident responsibility.
The penalty promoted Kenton Koch and Sam Craven to the class victory in the No. 94 Random Vandals Racing BMW M4 GT4 EVO. Michael Tosi and Nolan Allaer were elevated to second in the No. 77 McCumbee McAleer Racing Ford Mustang GT4, while Matheus Leist and Matt Travis completed the podium in the NOLASPORT Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport.
“We needed these points this weekend,” Craven said. “I kept the car clean and knew we had a five-second penalty against one of our competitors, so I was just trying to manage that gap and be smart. Kenton did a phenomenal job moving the car forward.”
“It was a fun start and a good battle with Matheus on the first lap,” Koch said. “He gave me a good amount of room on the exit of Turn 5, and I have a lot of respect for that. Sam did a phenomenal job, and it was a good race for Random Vandals this weekend. Once we knew the situation ahead, it was all about keeping it clean. It’s tricky to pass here, so there was no reason to risk it if we didn’t need to.”

Am Class
Denny Stripling established an early advantage in the Am class aboard the No. 188 Random Vandals Racing BMW M4 GT4 EVO, leading James Clay in the No. 36 BimmerWorld BMW and Race 1 winner Alex Garcia in the No. 21 ACI Motorsports Porsche.
The No. 188’s race took a turn following the driver change, however, when Judson Holt slowed dramatically and dropped out of contention for the victory.
That handed the advantage to BimmerWorld, but Frankie Muniz was rapidly closing aboard the No. 30 TechSport Racing Ford Mustang GT4. With just over five minutes remaining and James Walker Jr. appearing to struggle for pace, Muniz seized his opportunity and charged into the class lead.
Behind him, Alex and Michael Garcia kept themselves firmly in contention following an early pit stop that paid dividends as the race unfolded. Coming off their Race 1 victory, the ACI Motorsports duo secured second place to complete a double-podium weekend.
Kris Wilson and Craig Lumsden rounded out the Am podium in the No. 413 Colorado Motorsport with Flying Lizard BMW M4 GT4 EVO.
Out front, Muniz held on to deliver a third victory of the season for himself and Tyler Stone following their back-to-back wins at Road America. The result was particularly meaningful for Stone, with Barber Motorsports Park serving as his home track.
“It’s so hard to pass here, and I was just trying to set it up,” Muniz said. “Yesterday I tried to make a move for the lead and it didn’t go to plan, but I learned from that. You have to be aggressive and go when you can. I made the move today, it worked, and we held on for the win.
“Tyler did such an amazing job to start the race. For TechSport to come back from a last-place finish yesterday to a first-place finish today is incredible. We’re still in the hunt for the championship, so this is awesome.”
“This is very special,” Stone added. “I can’t really put it into words. Being at home, sleeping in my own bed and then coming out and winning a GT4 race in SRO is unbelievable. I couldn’t be more proud of Frankie. He drove incredibly today.
“We’re so thankful to be here and to be part of Ford Racing and TechSport Racing. The team does an amazing job, and this is an incredible result.”
