After 4 Months Off, Recstuff Racing in Action at VIR this Weekend in Big 3-Race Sprint Competition

Alton, VA - Jeff Courtney, the 2018 SRO GT4 Sprint Am series road racing champion, returns to competition this weekend (July 9-12) for the first time in four months due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic when the Milwaukee, Wis., driver races in the No. 99 KENDA/RecStuff.com Mercedes-AMG GT4 sports car at VIRginia International Raceway in a wild three-race GT4 racing program.

RECSTUFF RACING, based in Jackson, Wis., has been inactive as most motorsports organizations around the world due to the pandemic and now the racing world is playing catch up after many postponed events.

Courtney was last competing in the streets of St. Petersburg on March 13 when the promoters of the St. Petersburg Grand Prix halted the action due to the COVID-19 exposure.

Now, Courtney returns to competition with a busy three-race weekend at the 3.27-mile, 17-turn natural terrain road circuit in southern Virginia. After the postponement at St. Petersburg, the VIR racing weekend will host the previously-scheduled Pirelli GT4 Sprint round on Friday (July 10) at 1:05 p.m. EDT with the regular doubleheader GT4 events set for Saturday (July 11) at 9:25 a.m. EDT and Sunday (July 12) at 3:45 p.m. EDT.

Unfortunately, Courtney’s RECSTUFF RACING teammate, Fred Roberts of Toronto., Ont., CAN, cannot attend the SRO weekend at VIR due to the COVID-19 travel restrictions in Canada.

“Of course, it is a bit strange going back to racing now,” said Courtney, a veteran of the VIR high-speed circuit. “But I am looking forward to getting back in the race car, as it seems like a year since our last doubleheader races at COTA (March 6-8). Hopefully we are able to pull the weekend off safely for everyone.

“Unfortunately due to COVID-19, Fred is unable to join us, but he will be back in the near future. The VIR GT4 weekend should be a real test between the layoff on track, the Virginia heat and the three-race format. It will be a special weekend as our team competes with a heavy heart. Our longtime crew member, Jeff Krueger, lost his mom, Sandy, recently, and we’ll compete in her memory at VIR.”

Action for the Pirelli GT4 America Sprint series starts Thursday (July 9) at 10 a.m. EDT with the first practice session. All of the Pirelli GT America Sprint 50-minute races can be viewed at YouTube.com/GTWorld as well as at gt4-america.com.
