Sonoma, CA - GMG Racing's Andrew Davis had the fastest time in Thursday afternoon's combined Pirelli GT4 Sprint/SprintX practice session at Sonoma Raceway. Piloting the #2 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4, SprintX Pro/Am competitor Davis topped the charts with a 1:47.103, ahead of SprintX Am competitor Kris Wilson driving the #16 Rearden Racing Mercedes AMG GT4 (1:47.227) and Marco Polo Motorsports' Mads Soljehaug driving the #71 KTM X-Bow (1:47.373).
Fastest Sprint competitor in the session was Spencer Pumpelly (Sprint Pro) who posted a 1:47.388, good for fourth overall in the session. The top four slots on the charts featured the top times from competitors in each of SprintX Pro/Am, SprintX Am, SprintX Silver and Sprint Pro divisions.
Minutes into the 60-minute practice session as tires came up to temperature, Davis set the early fast lap with a 1:47.259, followed by SprintX Pro/Am driver Bill Auberlen, in the #82 BimmerWorld BMW M4 GT4 (1:48.058). Davis then went quicker to the 1:47.103 mark, while Wilson followed with the 1:47.227. Soljehaug's driving partner Nicolai Elghanayan posted a 1:47.717 good for third on the charts at the time, while Pumpelly, in the #66 TRG-The Racers Group/LaSalle Solutions Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 slotted into fourth with a 1:47.798. Pumpelly then briefly moved into third overall on the charts going quicker to a 1:47.388. Siljehaug, who took over for Elghanayan, slotted back into third overall posting a 1:47.373.
At the checkered, the top times held. Of note, the top Sprint Am competitor was Mark Klenin in the #62 KPR SIN R1 GT4 (1:49.245).
Friday, August 7th action will feature qualifying sessions and races for both Pirelli GT4 Sprint and SprintX competitors.
