American driver Thomas Surgent from Dallas, Texas will team up with accomplished McLaren driver Michael O’Brien from the United Kingdom in their striking red and white McLaren 570S GT4 reminiscent of McLaren’s late 1980s swagger, to compete in the 2022 Pirelli GT4 America road racing series set to begin at Sonoma Raceway April 15-17.
Privé Motorsports and Topp Racing are proud to announce this debut to the 2022 Pirelli GT4 America series in SRO after flashes of brilliance in Surgent’s solo rookie season in the SRO GT America Series. From his nine second dramatic final lap lead in the rain at the Circuit of the Americas to his inopportune encounter with a concrete barrier jockeying for first place at last year’s Music City Grand Prix in front of a packed crowd in the streets of Nashville, Tennessee, last season was both thrilling and memorable and portended great things were to come. Taking a leap into the Pirelli GT4 America series, Surgent will now team up with the accomplished O’Brien to field what should be an explosive combination.
With O’Brien’s history of being a multiple champion, including last season’s GT Cup GT4 crown in the 570S GT4, he’s notched up multiple poles, podiums & wins as well as winning on his GT3 debut in the McLaren 720S GT3 and the Formula 1 race (Glover Trophy) at Goodwood. It’s only fitting to imagine a world of possibilities when teaming up with Surgent who has showed an unusual amount of talent and promise in his action packed first season. “It’s a real privilege to be joining Privé Motorsports and Topp Racing working with them to reach our goals of winning races and ultimately the championship this season. Preparations are well underway and we’re working in a good direction having just concluded our first test at COTA”, said O’Brien.
“I have been graced with the privilege of piloting the supreme GT4 car, co-driven by the greatest pro in the series, supported by the premier manufacturer, and further supported by our exceptional crew. I will give it my all to ensure that we best position ourselves for a championship,” said Surgent. Surgent continued, “None of this would be possible without the support of our sponsor, Tentador Tequila, and I can only hope that our accomplishments will be as sensational as Tentador’s Tequila, which is soon to be unveiled and is truly worthy of the moniker “El Mejor tequila del Mundo”—the world’s finest tequila.”
This season is positioned to be the best in GT4 America history and features legendary tracks such as Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Watkins Glen, Road America, VIR International Raceway, Sebring, Sonoma and the thrilling new addition Ozarks International Raceway. “It will be my first season racing in America and with a list of iconic tracks to come, there’s plenty to look forward to. Together with the brilliant support from McLaren and the capabilities of the 570S GT4, we’re confident we can complete our goals. I’m excited to get the season underway and get stuck in!” O’Brien added.
