- Provisional Qualifying Results
Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin - Saturday’s Pirelli GT4 America qualifying sessions took place under cloudy skies but on a dry track around the Road America circuit. The sessions, featuring drivers from the Silver, Pro/Am and Am classes, were incident free on the long 4.048 mile Wisconsin circuit. The qualifying format for the GT4 field has driver 1 setting the grid for race 1 with driver 2 setting the grid for race 2.
The first qualifying session set the stage for the Race 1 starting positions.
Silver class championship leader Stevan McAleer (#18 RS1 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport) took pole position in the first qualifying session with a time of 2:15.829, a full 1.171 seconds ahead of Gavin Sanders in second (#34 Conquest Racing/JMF Mercedes AMG GT4). Kevin Conway in the #68 Smooge Racing Toyota GR Supra GT4 followed closely behind in third.
Gray Newell (#24 Heart of Racing Team Aston Martin Vantage GT4) set the fastest time of the session in the Pro/Am class, with his best lap time of 2:17.967. Newell finished just ahead of Tom Capizzi (#52 Auto Technic Racing BMW M4 GT4) who clocked a 2:18.095. The third-best time in the class, and 10th best time overall, went to Adam Adelson in the #120 Dexter Racing Toyota GR Supra GT4. Bryan Putt in the #15 BSport Aston Martin Vantage GT4 will fill out the second row.
In the Am class, Johann Schwartz (#80 Rooster Hall Racing BMW M4 GT4) set the fastest time of 2:18.308. Britain's Charlie Postins (#36 BimmerWorld BMW M4 GT4) and Alain Stad (#19 NOLASPORT Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport) followed behind to complete the Top 3.
Race 1 starts at 4:05 PM CST.
The second 15-minute qualifying session set the starting grid ahead of Race 2.
The second qualifying session saw Stevan McAleer's teammate, Eric Filgueiras, confirm the strength and dominance of this pairing. Having won seven races so far this season, Filgueiras put down the best time of the session with a lap time of 2:16.122. The #18 RS1 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport will therefore start from pole position for both races of the weekend. Sixth overall, John Geesbreght (#68 Smooge Racing Toyota GR Supra GT4) qualified second in the Silver class for Race 2, ahead of Ryan Dexter (#112 Dexter Racing Toyota GR Supra GT4).
Aaron Telitz, commanding the #69 Smooge Racing Toyota GR Supra GT4, posed a serious threat to Filgueiras’ overall pole position until the final minutes of the session. Only 0.253 seconds separated the two drivers. Telitz not only scored the fastest lap time in the Pro-Am class, but also secured the second-best time overall. Kenton Koch set the second-fastest Pro/Am time in the #15 BSPort Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT4 and was third overall, ahead of Andy Lee's #8 Flying Lizard Motorsports Aston Martin Vantage GT4. Koch will be looking for a return to their early season form, the BSport team having won the first two races at Sonoma in April.
In the Am class, Terry Borcheller (#20 Carus Callas Raceteam Toyota GR Supra GT4) topped the charts once again, setting a time of 2:16.706. Not only did he dominate his class, he also set the fifth-fastest overall time. Matt Travis (#19 NOLASPORT Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport) and Colombian driver Juan Martinez (#83 RS1 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport) completed the Top 3 in this class.
Race 2 starts at 11:10 AM CST on Sunday, August 21st.
