Nissan Racers Ready for Florida Action and Success

Nissan Racers Ready for Florida Action and Success

There are few racetracks in the world which can match the history, performance, and mystique of the Sebring International Raceway. There are few cars that can match the Nissan Z for those very same reasons.

In 1989, Nissan became the first Japanese brand to ever score an overall win in the 12 Hours of Sebring.  It wasn’t a fluke.  Nissan repeated in 1990, and 1991, ultimately scoring five wins in the Florida classic.

In 2023, during the inaugural season for the Nissan Z GT4 program, the on-track highlight was the performance at the Sebring round of the Pirelli GT4 America Championship.  This was the race weekend where the many months and thousands of miles of development and testing by NISMO and TechSport resulted in the fastest race lap and a podium performance, setting the stage for 2024.

Nissan kicked off the 2024 Pirelli GT4 America season at Sonoma Raceway with a pole position, fastest laps, and pair of podium finishes.  The next step will be the first win for the Nissan Z NISMO GT4 program.

Mike Carcamo, Program Director, Sports, NISMO, INFINITI, and Motorsports, Nissan Motor Corporation noted that, “Sebring is not an easy event, you need speed, durability, and the ability to capture the opportunities.  The NISMO team has been hard at work improving both performance and durability.  It’s not a matter of if we will win, it’s now a matter of which drivers and seizing the moment for that first win.”

For 2024, the two-car TechSport Racing Team is joined by single car entries from Blackdog Racing and Flying Lizard Motorsports, giving Nissan three teams with championship pedigrees.

Under the TechSport Racing tent, Colin Harrison will team up with Eric Powell in the #22 while Michai Stephens partners with Jonathan Neudorf in #23.

Blackdog Racing will field the #9 Z for Tony Gaples and Max Root.

The #5 Flying Lizard Motorsports Z will be wheeled by the Canadian duo of Stefan Rzadzinski and Damir Hot.

The official Sebring race weekend begins on Friday, May 3rd with two practice sessions.  Saturday will consist of qualifying and the first of the two 60-minute races.  The weekend will wrap up on Sunday with the second race.

Sebring race tickets start at just $15 with kids 12 and under admitted free with a paid adult.
