The battle for the 2026 Global GT4 Manufacturers Championship has tightened dramatically at the halfway point. After holding on to the lead for the majority of the opening portion of the season, Toyota slipped to second place in the standings after BMW mounted an attack to pull ahead.
After leading the standings since the opening rounds of the season in March, Toyota saw its once-comfortable advantage all but disappear as BMW mounted an impressive charge over the past several weeks. What was a 122-point cushion quickly evaporated thanks to a pair of dominant race weekends from the German manufacturer, allowing the two-time defending champion to briefly seize control of the standings.
BMW's surge was enough to erase Toyota's sizable lead and build an 11-point advantage of its own, marking the first time Toyota had been displaced from the top of the championship all season. The response, however, was immediate. Toyota then went on to reclaim the lead, but by the narrowest of margins.
Entering the second half of the global campaign, the Japanese manufacturer was sitting just two points ahead of BMW, but the latter wasted no time taking control again. With 48 rounds down and 37 to go, BMW has amassed 1,015 points to settle into the top spot and Toyota trails in second with 927.
Still, the stage is set for what promises to be an incredible close battle with truly zero room for error across all remaining race weekends. With such little separating the Toyota GR Supra GT4 and the BMW M4 GT4 programs, every round across the globe carries significant weight. A single strong performance, or any form of costly mistake, could once again cause major swings in the points tally.
Behind the leading duo, Porsche occupies a relatively comfortable third position. While the Stuttgart manufacturer sits nearly 200 points behind the championship lead, it maintains a substantial advantage of more than 250 points over fourth-place Mercedes-AMG, giving it firm control of third.
North America will continue to play an important role in the championship battle when Pirelli GT4 America resumes competition later this summer. BMW has established itself as one of the benchmark manufacturers throughout the American campaign, leading the way in both the Pro-Am and Am categories while consistently contending for top results in the highly competitive Silver class.
Meanwhile, Toyota's American campaign has featured flashes of strong pace mixed with inconsistent results, while Porsche has emerged as the manufacturer to beat in the Silver category. With valuable global manufacturers points on the line, the remaining rounds at Road America, Barber Motorsports Park, and Indianapolis Motor Speedway could prove pivotal in determining who lifts the 2026 Global GT4 Manufacturers Championship trophy.
