The 2026 Pirelli GT4 America season comes down to one final weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and brothers Alex and Michael Garcia remain firmly in the Am championship fight.
Entering the final two races of the season, the No. 21 ACI Motorsports duo sits third in the standings, just 14 points behind championship leaders Frankie Muniz and Tyler Stone in the No. 30 TechSport Racing Ford Mustang GT4. James Clay and James Walker Jr. occupy second place in the No. 36 BimmerWorld BMW, only one point off the lead.
With two races remaining and three teams in contention, the Garcias know that every point will count. However, beyond the championship implications, the opportunity to accomplish something together as brothers makes the stakes even more meaningful.
"I think it would be incredible, especially after the season we have had, with all the ups and downs and emotions," Alex explained. "All the hard work would pay off. Winning a championship with your brother is something special, and it is something I would cherish for a long time."
Finding Their Rhythm
The Garcia brothers' 2026 campaign has been anything but straightforward. After joining ACI Motorsports and transitioning to the BMW M4 GT4 EVO, the opening rounds at Sonoma Raceway and Circuit of the Americas were spent adapting to their new machinery and building momentum.
Their breakthrough arrived at familiar territory, Sebring International Raceway, where the brothers claimed their first Am class victory of the season in Race 2.
For Alex, winning at their home track remains one of the highlights of the year.
"My favorite moment would probably be our home win at Sebring, especially with this being the last year Sebring was on the schedule," he reflected. "It was nice to bring home a win during our home race weekend."
The momentum continued at Road Atlanta, where the brothers delivered their strongest weekend of the season, sweeping both Am class races for the first time.
Michael recalled the second victory as a defining moment in their campaign.
"For me, it would be Atlanta, Race 2," he said. "Alex handed me the car in a great position, and we worked our way through the field to take the win and sweep the weekend. It was the first time we had accomplished that together, and we were both on the same page all weekend. That was such a great feeling."
Having found their rhythm with the BMW, the brothers appeared poised to carry that momentum into the closing stages of the championship. However, another challenge was waiting.
A Setback and a Comeback
A heavy crash at Road America in August brought the No. 21 BMW's weekend to an early end, costing the brothers valuable championship points and leaving ACI Motorsports with a significant challenge ahead of the penultimate round at Barber Motorsports Park.
With only four weeks between events, the team turned to a Porsche for Barber, requiring the Garcias to adapt to another chassis at a critical point in their championship campaign.
The change did little to slow them down.
Michael secured Am class pole position for Race 1 before Alex took over the class lead following the mandatory pit stops, ultimately bringing home another victory.
The result kept their championship hopes alive and ensured they would arrive at Indianapolis with everything still to play for.
All to Play for at Indianapolis
Back behind the wheel of their BMW M4 GT4 EVO for the season finale, the Garcias have faced another adjustment as they reacquaint themselves with the car following their successful outing in the Porsche.
"It is a little nerve-wracking," Alex admitted. "I think we can definitely pull it off, but it is going to take some work. This week has been challenging. We have some really strong competitors, and everyone is incredibly fast. Coming back to the BMW after driving a different chassis at Barber has taken some adjustment, but I believe we have the pace to fight for the win this weekend."
Despite those challenges, the brothers made an immediate statement in qualifying, with Michael securing Am class pole position for Race 1 and putting the No. 21 ACI Motorsports BMW in an ideal position to begin their championship charge.
"We need two wins to put ourselves in the best possible position for the championship," Michael said. "I believe it is achievable, so we are feeling optimistic."
While the championship remains the ultimate objective, Indianapolis offers another incentive for the brothers: the opportunity to celebrate a victory at one of motorsport's most iconic venues.
"Indianapolis is such a special place," Michael explained. "We have raced here a few times, but we have never had the opportunity to kiss the bricks. It would be incredible to experience that, especially alongside my brother. That would make it even more meaningful."
One Corner at a Time
With the championship battle expected to go down to the wire, the Garcias are focused on maximizing every opportunity without losing sight of the bigger picture.
"One corner at a time," Michael said of their approach. "The priority is to get through Turn 1, then Turn 3, then Turn 7. From there, it is about finding a rhythm, putting together consistent laps, and taking things one step at a time."
Alex echoed his brother's mindset, emphasizing the importance of balancing the pursuit of race victories with their championship ambitions.
"I could not have said it better," he added. "We need to get through Race 1 and keep the bigger picture in mind. A victory would be incredible, but our main focus is the championship."
From adapting to a new car to overcoming a major setback and returning to victory lane, Alex and Michael Garcia have demonstrated their determination throughout the 2026 season.
Now, with just two races separating them from a potential Am class championship, the brothers have one final opportunity to turn their season-long effort into something unforgettable.
And if everything falls into place at Indianapolis, they might just get to kiss the bricks together. After all, they are lining up first in the Am class ahead of Race 1 this Saturday morning…
