Nissan’s customer teams showcased speed and resilience at Road America, adding additional podium finishes to their season tally. Despite challenging weather conditions, the #5 Flying Lizard Motorsports Nissan Z NISMO GT4 team built on their recent success at VIR with another strong showing.
The team overcame a rough start when the car was damaged during Saturday morning’s qualifying session. With parts and technical support from Nissan Motorsports, the team quickly repaired the car for the 5 p.m. race. Damir Hot started 10th in class and climbed through the field before handing off to Andy Lee, who pushed on to a second-place finish among Pro-Am entries. The team also earned the Super Fuel Hard Charger award for gaining the most positions.
On Sunday morning, all four Nissan entries challenged podium positions in the one-hour race. The #9 Blackdog Racing Z led the charge, while the #5 Flying Lizard Motorsports Z repeated their Saturday Super Fuel Hard Charger performance, finishing a strong fourth. The #23 TechSport Racing Z, driven by Jonathan Neudorf and Johan Schwartz, earned an impressive second-place finish.
With the Nissan Technical Center North America (NTCNA) in Farmington Hills, Michigan, just 400 miles from Road America, this event offered a prime opportunity for Nissan engineers to join the Nissan Z NISMO teams and fans at the track. Engineers from the Nissan Acceleration Team, a Nissan employee motorsports club, managed the fan activation zone, answering questions and discussing career opportunities with Nissan.
“This was another solid weekend for the Nissan Z NISMO GT4 program, with two of our teams earning podium positions”, said Mike Carcamo, program director, Sports Cars, NISMO Cars and Motorsports, Nissan Motor Corporation. “We look forward to closing out the season at Barber and Indy with more wins, and then shifting our focus to 2025.”
Nissan is represented in the Pirelli GT4 America series by three championship-level customer teams fielding four Nissan Z NISMO race cars.
